Firearms and ammunition

The carriage of hunting and sports weapons is not authorized in the hold; authorization for carriage must be requested in advance a minimum of 48 hours prior to departure from the “Special Services” of AIR CARAIBES, or your travel agency, provided that you are able to present all required permits and licenses.

AIR CARAIBES is authorized to carry sports ammunition and weapons in the hold provided that they meet regulatory requirements:

  • Compliance with 23 kg baggage allowance for Regional and Long Haul, Soleil class, and 32 kg for Long Haul, Caraïbes or Madras class,

 

  • You are authorized to carry ammunition (cartridge for small-caliber weapon) categorized by UN nomenclature under references 1.4S UN 0012 class (inert projectile cartridges for weapons) or UN 0014 (blank cartridges for weapons), under the exclusion or ammunition containing explosive or incendiary projectiles.

Firearms concerned:

  • Arms designed for hunting game, birds, and other animals,
  • Arms used for pigeon shooting, ball trap, competition shooting,
  • Musket: considered a sports weapon these days (formerly military weapon).
  • Collectible weapons.

 

Ammunition limits:

  • Each passenger is authorized to carry, as hold baggage, one parcel of ammunition only.
  • The gross total mass of ammunition carried by one passenger must not exceed 5 kg.
  • Ammunition must be presented at check-in in a solidly packaged parcel.
  • It is not permitted for several passengers to bundle their ammunition in one parcel.

 

How do I declare a sports or hunting weapon?

Weapons designed for sport and hunting are authorized provided that prior agreement is obtained and the following obligations are complied with:

  • To declare intention to carry sports weapons and/or ammunition on AIR CARAIBES flights,
  • Contact the special carriage department at least 48 hours prior to the flight in order to obtain the airline’s approval: FAX / 05 90 93 84 90 – E-MAIL / transportspeciaux@aircaraibes.com
  • Hold a legal permit to carry a firearm (permit or required licenses).
  • On international flights, holders must prove that they have completed all legal formalities concerning entry into the country.
  • Weapons carried are sports weapons and hunting weapons only,
  • Be at least 18 full years of age,
  • Identify oneself at check-in with the following declaration in 3 duly completed copies. Two copies must be handed in at check-in.

 

Compliance with quotas per flight:

GUNS OR PISTOLS: a maximum of 3 per flight

Weapons and objects that may cause injuries:

  • Needles and hooks made of metal or any other material sufficiently solid to be used as a weapon,
  • Walking or hiking sticks or ski poles,
  • Knives or penknives, whatever the length of the blade,
  • Scissors
  • Meat cleavers, 
  • Knives including ceremonial knives, in metal, ceramic, or any other material sufficiently robust to be used as a weapon,
  •  Crampons,
  • Arrows and darts,
  • Axes and hatchets, 
  • Machetes, 
  • Tools that could be used as blunt or cutting weapons, such as drills and drill bits, cutters, work knives, all saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, keys, soldering equipment,
